Talent Identification Program (TIP)

The TIP program was designed to identify athletes with potential, in urban and rural areas, nurture them through various local competitions and then expose them to regional and International competitions. The TIP program has delivered outstanding results since it was crafted by the Association (ZAAA) in 2004.

National Teams

Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) has the following three (3) National teams:

  • Youths Team (aged 16 and 17 years)
  • Junior Team (aged 18 and 19 years)
  • Senior Team ( aged 20 years and above)

The Association has more than sixty (60) reliable athletes who can compete at any major competition.

Performance

The performance of the three national teams that have been developed and nurtured through the TIP program financed by funds raised from the ICR project show that Zambia is once again climbing the ladder in the Regional and International Championships. Good examples are:

  • The four juniors who won three (3) medals in Namibia during the Junior Championships hosted by that country on April 24, 2012.
  • Four (4) youths who ripped three (3) medals (two gold and one bronze) in the youths championships held in Harare, Zimbabwe on 27th May 2012
  • The recent qualification of two youths (Titus Kafunda and Sepiso Abygirl) who qualified for the Junior World Championships that will be held in Barcelona Spain on July 10-15, 2012.
